The Battle and District Historical Society has over 200 members actively interested in history: local, regional, national and international. The Society has monthly lectures; a research group open to all; reading groups; an Archive exclusive to members; a Newsletter; and an annual Journal . It is also takes an active part in the general activities of Battle and District and has close ties to and common origins with the Battle Museum of Local History.
Membership of the Society is £20pa single and £30pa for two living at the same address. The £5 entry fee for non members to see a lecture is rebated by voucher on joining. New members are welcome – just click on ‘Membership‘ or in the menu bar to the left.
B&DHS offers the local community a forum for enjoying all aspects of British history, including the very rich local history of the Battle and eastern Sussex. Founded in 1950 as part of Battle’s contribution to the Festival of Britain, the Society features a year-round series of lectures, occasional excursions, a small research group devoted to local history and a reading group.
Our lecture programme has a long tradition of attracting first class speakers. Society. Meetings are held at 7.30pm in the Wynne Room of the Memorial Hall, Battle generally on the third Thursday of each month (no meeting August).
